An underestimated exotic

The pineapple is a compact plant that mainly consists of the fruit body when fully grown. Its leaves are above the fruit, it has some roots at the bottom. The skin of the pineapple fruit is covered with short, short thorns, which are soft and therefore hardly sting a person. The shell is roughly as thick as leather and also has a comparable texture. Spines also grow on the leaves.

An unripe fruit is green and firm - it has an acid taste. Later, the skin turns yellow and the flesh becomes soft. Some varieties are more reddish. You can therefore assess the degree of maturity well by the color.

The botany assigns the plant to the bromeliads, which are subordinate to the sweet grasses. The actual fruit is actually a berry. Although you can usually find the juicy fruits in shops only under the uniform name "pineapple", there are different varieties. The varieties are divided into groups, the most important of which is the Cayenne group. A single fruit from the Cayenne group can weigh up to four kilograms. The most popular varieties are MD2, Smooth Cayenne and Kew.

The bromeliad is originally from America. A fruit that you buy in the supermarket can also have grown in Africa or Australia today. It is a true survivor in nature and can even grow on other trees like a mistletoe. It does not harm your innkeeper.
